Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust

Ride & Stride 2009

A big thank you to everyone who took part and supported the Ride and Stride in September this year.   At the time of writing, the details of the total raised is still being calculated as monies are still being received, however it is anticipated this will be in the region of £20,000.  As always the funds raised by the sponsorship will go towards helping our precious Yorkshire churches and chapels.

Every person who takes part or sponsors the event help add to the Trust's funds, however this year two people in particular deserve special mention.……

62 year old Katie Steel from Church Fenton who cycled solo around the New Ainsty Deanery visiting 31 churches covering a total of 89 miles and raising £300.  Katie made sure that all visits were confirmed by obtaining signatures from whoever was available to sign her sponsorship form – this included a gentleman in a sports car passing by at Thorpe Arch, a farmer on a tractor in Healaugh and a neighbour of Bilborough church, all of whom were surprised by her request to sign but suitably impressed when Katie explained her mission.  Congratulations and special thanks to Katie for her fantastic efforts

In York itself, Geoff Dickson also spent the day on his own managing to visit 99 churches (all within the City of York boundary) covering a total of 44 miles, by bike or on foot raising just under £300.

Like Katie, Geoff is also a pensioner (68 this year) and not a regular cyclist so it just shows what can be achieved, both hope that their example will encourage others to join in and support the event in the future.
