SPONSORED RIDE AND STRIDE 2007
This is our biggest fundraising event, one to which we look forward and welcome anyone to support the Trust and local churches and chapels by taking part. Members, their families, friends and other supporters all joined in the fun and raised an amazing amount (in excess of £35,000) via sponsorship which will enable us to offer even more grants in the future. Everyone who took part is to be congratulated on their efforts however one or two individuals or parishes really raised the bar not only for the benefit of the Trust but for their local/chosen church or chapel. Amongst these committed people a number deserve special mention. The saddle riders...Tom Ramsden, High Steward of Ripon Cathedral rode to Selby Abbey on horseback! Four other stalwarts (Christine Groundwater, Margaret Hammond, Colin Little and Carolyn Sands) cycled the 45 miles raising funds for Ripon Cathedral. The photo shoot took place outside York Minster! If they can do it …Also deserving special mention are Irvine Watson and Simon Reynolds who raised a record amount for York Minster by walking around York City churches - no mean feat for Irvine and Simon whose combined ages are excess of 160! Richard Shepherd also did a fantastic job of tirelessly co-ordinating things to raise even more funds for York Minster. It’s not just the big boys ...The parish of Helmsley in North Yorkshire also stood out with their considerable efforts and deserve congratulations for helping both the Trust The Lone Cyclist …Andrew Pert, a York architect, cycled from Malton and visited no less than 16 churches throughout the Yorkshire Wolds: grueling climbs (it’s tough pushing a bike uphill!) spectacular views and exhilarating freewheeling covering 42 miles in 9 hours. Reluctant to seek sponsorship (preferring to do this partly for his own pleasure) his work colleagues supported (ie. bullied!) him into raising funds for the Trust! Come and join us for the 2008 Ride and Stride Day (see Ride and Stride page or contact our County Co-ordinator for full details, download a Sponsorship Form and get ready to join in the fun! You can join in even if you do not wish to travel – get your friends, family and fellow PCC members to sponsor you for a “Church Sit”. Simple! No need to even get out of breath! |
