Invitation to Join the YHCT Grants Committee

Are you passionate about preserving and maintaining church buildings? Do you have expertise in architecture or a keen interest in church restoration? The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust (YHCT) is looking for a dedicated individual to join our Grants Committee.

About Us: Founded in 1988, the YHCT is a non-denominational charity committed to supporting Christian churches of all denominations and ages within Yorkshire. We assist with the preservation and restoration of churches, ensuring they remain places of worship and community heritage.

The Role: We are seeking a new member to join our friendly and diverse group, which includes YHCT Trustees, conservation architects, contractors with church restoration experience, retired historians, and other academics from related fields. Our committee members volunteer their time and expertise to make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities:

Attend bi-annual meetings in April and October to review and recommend grant applications to the Board of Trustees. These are usually held in Boston Spa.

Conduct site visits to churches that have submitted grant applications, assessing the urgency of repairs, financial need, and architectural merit.  Prepare reports and contribute to discussions with the committee.

Requirements:

Proficiency in email communication and report preparation.

Strong communication skills.

Good knowledge of ecclesiastical buildings and working with listed buildings.

Access to a car for site visits.

Why Join Us?

This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the longevity of Yorkshire’s historic churches, visit beautiful church buildings, and engage with passionate individuals in the field. Your expertise will help ensure these important buildings are maintained for future generations.
