Celebrating decades of dedication to Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust
The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust extends its heartfelt thanks to two committed and valued Trustees, Richard Carr-Archer and Peter Johnston, as they retire from their voluntary roles within the organisation.

Richard Carr Archer (above), a founding member of the Trust, has served with distinction for an incredible 38 years, guiding the Trust from its earliest days and shaping its enduring legacy. Peter Johnston (below) joined the Trust in 2010 and, over the past 16 years, has brought dedication and expertise to every aspect of his work. Both Richard and Peter have held the positions of Trustees and Chairs of the Grants Committee, ensuring that support for Yorkshire’s historic churches has remained at the forefront of our mission. Additionally, Richard has served as Chair of the Trustees.

Their commitment has been particularly evident in recent years. Of the 162 site visit reports submitted by members over the last five years, an impressive 40 were compiled by Richard and Peter, reflecting their efforts on church visits and grant assessments.
We were delighted to express our gratitude during the YHCT Grants Committee meeting on Friday, 27 March at St Mary’s Church, Boston Spa. Richard and Peter joined us for coffee and cake at the start of the meeting, where we presented cards and gifts in recognition of their long service. Their legacy will continue to inspire all those who cherish Yorkshire’s rich ecclesiastical heritage.
On behalf of everyone at the Trust, thank you Richard and Peter for your years of leadership, commitment, and friendship. The impact of your work will be felt for generations to come.
