Barwick in Elmet Methodist Church has received £5000 from the YHCT to help fund urgent stonework repairs.
Dating back to April 1900, the church is a much loved and well used community resource, hosting lunch clubs, a youth club, a choir, a children’s nursery as well as playing an important role in combatting loneliness and isolation amongst the local elderly population.
The YHCT were delighted to award the funding to help fund work to repair the erosion to the stonework, needed to ensure the building can carry on providing a safe and welcoming space for all.
Brian Gibson, Property Committee Chairman from the church said: “We are delighted to be receiving this funding from the YHCT. It is a real boost to our fundraising efforts, meaning we can address the urgent repairs needed to ensure that our beautiful place of worship can continue to provide a space for all the community and will be preserved for many generations.”
Tom Ramsden, Chairman of the YHCT said: “Yorkshire is home to many of the most important churches in the United Kingdom: They dominate the landscape, they are vital to the life of many communities, and they are full of the treasures of our heritage. Trustees were delighted to award funding to such a wide range of churches from all across the region and are delighted to help these much loved places of worship secure their future for generations to come.”
