The national Ride + Stride sponsorship event took place on Saturday 12 September and all over Yorkshire individuals, pairs and groups set off in warm sunshine and a fresh breeze to visit as many places of worship as they could in a day to raise money for their local church and the YHCT.
One such group was from St Andrew’s Church in Bishopthorpe, and included 11 year old Henry. Henry’s Dad doesn’t ride and his Mum was recovering from an operation, but that didn’t stop Him. Henry was determined to do a long bike ride and fuelled by chocolate and flapjack, along with the rest of the group, managed to visit an impressive 12 churches during the day, cycling a total of 25 miles.
This impressive group visited churches in Healaugh, Acaster, Appleton Roebuck, Bolton Percy, Colton, Bilbrough, Askham Richard, Askham Bryan and Bishopthorpe, raising over £300. You can still donate at
The event was a little bit different this year, with some churches remaining closed, but many were able to open to welcome walkers, cyclists and those arriving by car. A great day was had by all with much needed funds raised for local churches and the YHCT. We are really grateful to Henry and his team and encourage Friends to start planning now for Ride +Stride 2021!
