Recent grant awards – April 2021

Ten churches from across Yorkshire are celebrating this month after being awarded over £50,000 for essential repairs, conservation and maintenance works.

The future of many churches is under threat due to crumbling roofs, windows and stonework. The Trust works to ensure these places of worship are kept in good repair, recognising the contribution they make to society at large and the support they provide to local communities, especially over the last year.

The grants will fund vital repairs to some of Yorkshire’s most vulnerable places of worship.

Churches receiving funds include:

  • St Paul, Heslington – £3,000 for replacement gutters
  • St Lawrence, York – £6,000 for replacement gutters
  • Brighouse Central Methodist Church – £3,000 for roof repairs
  • St Mary the Virgin, Oxenhope – £10,000 for roof repairs and insulation
  • Mosborough Methodist Church – £5,000 for re roofing and insulation
  • St Lawrence, Sigglesthorne – £5,000 for roof repairs

Tom Ramsden, Chairman of the YHCT said “We were delighted to be able to support so many places of worship at our recent grants committee. The impact of lockdown has had a devastating effect on our local churches, many have been unable to run any services or fundraising events and some have been closed up completely. Now, more than ever, these precious places of worship need our support.”
