St John the Evangelist, Goole

St John the Evangelist Church in Goole was awarded £4,500 from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust in October 2022 for essential repairs, conservation and maintenance works.

St John’s is a Grade II listed Victorian church which dominates the skyline of Goole and is on the Heritage At Risk Register. The church is in dire need of repairs to the south slope of the nave roof, with slipped, missing and broken slates letting in water, adversely affecting the interior finishes and fittings. The YHCT were delighted to award £4,500 towards the cost of repairs to help ensure the work can take place.

Jonny Patton, worship and operations director at St John’s said: “The church has been at the heart of the community for 175 years next year, seeing thousands of people through the doors for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. This grant will enable the church to stop the water running down the walls at the rear of the building and also fix the cracked or worn out windows on the South side of the building.”
