Ride & Stride Inspiration

We are delighted so many of you take part in Ride & Stride each year, and hope that reading about the efforts of others may persuade more of you to take part. The event is an important source of income for the Trust and is a wonderful way to enjoy getting out and about – whether by bike, on foot or by car – and raising much-needed funds to support grant applications from churches and chapels across Yorkshire.

As well as celebrating the success of the Upper Ryedale Parish sponsored event https://www.yhct.org.uk/upper-ryedale-ride-stride-success/, we really want to pass on our enormous thanks and appreciation to Ann Knaggs, from Driffield.

Ann has been taking part in Ride & Stride for twenty five years, and worked with David Trow https://www.yhct.org.uk/ride-stride-stalwart-fondly-remembered/ , a fondly remembered Friend who raised over £10,000 taking part in Ride & Stride. David sadly passed in 2018 and in 2019 Ann did her ride in his memory.

Ann has undertaken sponsored rides with friends and family, and started with her granddaughter on the back of her bike, and over the years has cycled through hail, sleet, rain and wind, Ann’s granddaughter is now 30!

The furthest distance Ann achieved was 35 miles in one day, visiting 13 churches – this year, in soaring heat, at aged over 80, Ann completed 23 miles, visiting 9 churches!

Remarkably over the 25 years, there have only been 2 punctures. On one occasion, while riding with her cousins, Ann left the bike with a puncture at a relatives’ house, hitched a ride home with three ladies doing Ride& Stride by car, picked up her old bike and managed to catch her cousins up three churches later!

We are extremely grateful to Ann for her fantastic fundraising efforts over the past 25 years and we look forward to hearing about how she gets on in 2024.
